Aiming to have more presence in the global supply chain and strengthen competitiveness in the era of regional and global integration, THACO AUTO has been making great efforts in product research & development (R&D), technology investments and market expansion, bringing the THACO brand out to the world.
Since 2019, THACO AUTO’s products, ranging from buses, trucks to passenger cars have been present in various regional countries such as Thailand, Myanmar, the Philippines, Pakistan, Laos, Cambodia, and so on.
Over the years, THACO AUTO has been researching and applying new technologies, materials, and smart systems in its products to meet the specific requirements of major markets in Southeast Asia, while expanding into new markets worldwide.
EXPORTING THACO SLEEPER BUSES TO THE PHILIPPINES
Recognizing the shift in the Philippine market from seat buses to sleeper buses, THACO AUTO and Volvo Buses have partnered to develop sleeper bus products that are well-suited to the country's infrastructure and traffic conditions, providing passengers with comfort and convenience on long journeys.
THACO AUTO exported 10 sleeper buses to Autodelta in the Philippines in August 2023, becoming the first company to develop and supply sleeper buses to this market. THACO AUTO's R&D Center engineering team researched and designed the high-end sleeper bus model to Volvo's specifications and customer requirements, with over 60% localized content. The vehicle is built on a Volvo chassis with a monocoque body structure that meets European ECE R66 safety standards, reducing weight and increasing rigidity and stability. This event plays an important role in affirming THACO AUTO’s production capacity and product quality to meet the needs of ASEAN markets.
EXPORTING SPECIALIZED BUSES AND TRUCKS TO LAOS
In April 2023, THACO AUTO exported a batch of specialized vehicles to serve operations needs at NongKhang airport in Laos, marking the promising start for its business in civil airports.
The exported vehicles included THACO AUTO-manufactured 7-seat IVECO Daily Plus Premium mini buses, IVECO Daily ambulances, and Mitsubishi Fuso FA140/FA1014R tank trucks. The vehicles are produced on modern assembly lines which follow quality standards of IVECO (Italy) and Mitsubishi (Japan), and design requirements to serve operations at the NongKhang airport, seeking to improve airport efficiency, service quality and customer experience. After this shipment, THACO AUTO keeps working on new advanced specialized vehicles for civil airports to finish its product lineup.
EXPORTING THE FIRST THACO-BRANDED BUSES
THACO AUTO exported the first-ever batch of THACO-branded buses to Autodelta, a company in the Philippines at the end of 2019. The significant milestone has marked its first entrance into the international market.
Having been developed by THACO AUTO R&D Center, the bus had an all-new design and a local content of 45%. The vehicle was equipped with a Euro-5 transmission engine, optimizing fuel efficiency and environmental friendliness. The production is strictly controlled at the THACO Bus Plant, one of largest and most advanced bus plants in Southeast Asia which can produce 20,000 vehicles per year.
Following the first successful attempt, THACO AUTO continues to study other markets and their quality standards to align the R&D accordingly. In the meantime, the company has been upgrading technologies to increase the local contents and added values, meeting specialized requirements in both domestic and export markets.
EXPORTING KIA PASSENGER CARS
The Kia passenger cars manufactured by THACO have received high recommendations from customers in Southeast Asia markets for having 40-percent local contents, delivering same fine quality as made in Korea cars, and competitive prices.
In 2020, THACO AUTO impressively exported 720 Kia Passenger cars to other countries in Southeast Asia - 400 Kia Sedona to Thailand, 160 Kia Soluto and 160 Kia Cerato to Myanmar.
Thanks to this, THACO AUTO has become the main Kia manufacturer and exporter in the Southeast Asia region. Up till now, the company has shipped more than 2,900 Kia cars to Myanmar, Thailand, Kazakhstan, and kept expanding to other new markets.
EXPORTING PEUGEOT DJANGO MOTORCYCLES
In 2022, THACO AUTO exported nearly 1,000 Peugeot Django 150cc scooters to the Philippines, Indonesia, Hong Kong, and Cambodia. Produced at THACO Motorcycle Plant, the Django 150 meets Peugeot’s quality standards and the regional value content requirements (42%).
